The MacMoney Difference

Financial Checkup: Your Built-In Financial Advisor

Answer a six-step questionnaire and get a complete, personalized picture of your finances — with direct, written advice about the decision you're actually facing. It's designed by a Licensed Financial Advisor, and it's the one thing other personal finance software doesn't offer. The assessment follows United States retirement and tax rules, and every figure in it is in US dollars.

How it works

Six quick steps cover you and your household, your income, your monthly spending, what you own, and what you owe. Or skip the typing entirely with "Use My MacMoney Input" — it fills the questionnaire straight from your real data.

  • Account balances become your assets, savings & debts
  • 12 months of transactions become your monthly numbers
  • Bills, variable costs & paychecks each computed the way a planner would

What you get

Net Worth

Assets, investments, savings, consumer debt, and mortgage, totaled the way an advisor would present it.

Spending Plan

A pie-chart view of where each month's take-home goes across Fixed Costs, Investments, Savings, and Fun Money, with healthy-range guidance for each.

Fixed Costs

All seventeen expense lines, from rent and groceries to childcare, pets, and family support, with the share of take-home each one consumes.

Retirement Projection

An interactive calculator with sliders for retirement age, monthly investing, and expected return, plus a one-click preset for the contribution that gets you fully funded.

The Checkup's Take

A written assessment generated from your actual numbers — a straight answer to your question, what the numbers say, and a prioritized action plan with real dollar amounts.

It answers the question you're actually asking

Tell the checkup what you're trying to decide, and the assessment addresses it directly. Add a partner, children, or family you support, and the advice adjusts — from your emergency-fund target to whether a second income makes sense.

General Checkup

A full picture of where your finances stand today, no specific decision required.

Retirement Readiness

Your nest egg at multiple ages, and the exact monthly amount that closes any gap.

Starting a Business

How many months of runway your savings buy, and whether quitting is survivable.

A Big Purchase

Pay-cash verdicts, save-per-month plans, and down-payment math for home-sized amounts.

Paying Off Debt

Whether your interest rate beats the market, and the payoff timeline each extra dollar buys.

Protection, built in

When your checkup shows people depending on you, a "Protect What You've Built" card calculates your life insurance coverage target using debt and income management principles, then credits the investments you already hold and compares the result to the policies on file in Protection & Estate. If there's a gap, one click requests a coverage review from Lonestar Business Advisors & Insurance, with your numbers already in hand.

Personal Finance Software, Made Simple

One app for everything your money does

Track bank accounts, credit cards, loans, cash, and investments in one place, with categories built for how you actually budget. Set a budget so you don't overspend where it counts, reconcile against your statement to catch errors early, and see where the money went. When tax time or a big decision comes around, the reports are already built.

Bring Your History With You

Import from your bank, without the cleanup afterwards

MacMoney reads QIF, OFX, QFX and CSV. Because no two banks lay a CSV out the same way, the columns are detected rather than assumed — including European number formats and semicolon-delimited files. Categories are suggested from your own transaction history rather than a generic keyword list, and anything that looks like a duplicate is flagged for review before a single row is written.

Why People Switch

Everything a household's finances need — nothing they don't

Accounts, a budget, and a calendar that actually talk to each other, plus a quiet path to real advice when you want it.

★ Financial Checkup

A 6-step questionnaire designed by a Licensed Financial Advisor turns your real numbers into a written, personalized assessment — the one thing other budgeting apps don't offer.

See Where You Stand

One dashboard for net worth, account balances, and what's changed since last month — no spreadsheet required.

Every Account, One View

Checking, savings, credit cards, cash, and investments — unlimited accounts, reconciled against your statement.

Reports Without the Pivot Table

Spending by category, income vs. expenses, and net worth over time, filtered and exported in a few clicks.

Bills, Handled

A real calendar with recurring reminders, so nothing is due before you knew it was coming.

Budgets That Hold Up

Set it once, track it in real time, and see exactly where this month went sideways — if it did.

Positions, Not Guesswork

Know what you hold and what it cost you

Every holding with its share count, average cost basis, current value and gain or loss — per position and per account. Buy, sell and reinvest transactions post to the register and update the holding in the same step, so the two never drift apart.

Add a free Finnhub key and one click refreshes every US-listed stock and ETF you hold: the latest price, the day's move on each position and across the whole portfolio. Prices arrive in US dollars and convert into each account's own currency, and a ticker that comes back empty keeps the price it had rather than zeroing out a position — so one mistyped symbol never leaves the rest of the portfolio unpriced.

Goals that show their working

Set a target and a date, link the account you are saving into, and MacMoney tracks the progress against your real balance rather than a number you maintain by hand. The projection underneath answers the other question — how long a given monthly amount actually takes.

  • Progress from the linked account's live balance
  • Days remaining against your target date
  • A live projection you can drag
MacMoney savings goals with progress bars, target dates and a savings projection

Money in more than one currency

Hold accounts in 39 currencies. Each account keeps its own, so a euro account still reads in euro — while net worth, budgets and every report are totalled in whichever currency you choose. Rates refresh on demand, and a transaction keeps the rate it was recorded at, so refreshing today never rewrites last year's figures.

  • Accounts in 39 currencies
  • One reporting currency for every total
  • Six interface languages

The dashboard is yours to arrange

Eight cards cover net worth, accounts, spending, cash flow, bills, budgets, recent activity and the nudges worth acting on — and you decide which of them you actually want to look at. Switch off the ones you don't use, move the ones you check first to the top, and MacMoney opens that way every time. Hiding a card changes nothing about your accounts or your totals; switch it back on and everything comes with it.

  • Show or hide any card
  • Reorder without leaving the screen
  • Back to the original layout in one click

Built To Be Trusted With Your Numbers

The details that earn a household's trust

01

Fully customizable

Categories, account types, color tags, appearance and language — set up MacMoney the way you actually think about money, not the way a template assumes you do. Even the home dashboard is yours to arrange: switch off the cards you don't use and put the ones you do at the top.

02

Your data stays on your Mac

No account to create, no analytics and no tracking. Your financial data is a file on your own Mac, and it stays there — the only thing that ever leaves is a ticker symbol or a currency code, and only when you press refresh for live prices or exchange rates.

03

One subscription, your whole household

Desktop, laptop, the one in the home office — and everyone you share an Apple Family with. Family Sharing puts MacMoney on the Macs of up to six people for the one subscription.

04

Real people answer the phone

Support comes out of the same Carrollton, TX office as Lonestar Business Advisors — a real area code, a real person, no offshore ticket queue.

Pricing

Free for 30 days. Then $39.99 a year.

No card required to start, and no charge for the first 30 days. After that it renews at $39.99 a year unless you cancel first — less than half what comparable Mac finance apps charge. Cancel any time from your Apple Account.

If you ever stop subscribing, MacMoney keeps opening in read-only mode — you can still view, back up and export everything you entered. Your records are yours, whether or not you are paying.
